About Altitude Sickness
Altitude sickness (acute mountain sickness) occurs when you travel to high altitudes too quickly. The body needs time to adjust to the lower oxygen levels at higher elevations.
Most people can safely travel to altitudes up to 2,500 meters (8,200 feet) without problems. Above this height, the risk increases, especially with rapid ascent.
